Typos in WhatsApp messages are a daily annoyance. Autocorrect does its best, but if you've ever found your phone entered the word "crouch" when you wanted to say something a little more profane, you'll know it's not foolproof. Currently, if you make a mistake in a WhatsApp message, it is sent and there is little you can do about it. Your only options are to eliminate the offensive message, leave an awkward space on the recipient's phone, or correct yourself with a follow-up between the legs.
But it appears that the Meta-owned company is planning a third option in the near future. WABetaInfo searched for the latest beta WhatsApp iPhone software and found that users will soon be able to edit messages after they are sent. The feature is located in the context menu that appears when you long-press on a message, the same place where Forward, Reply and Starred currently appear. Just long press on a message, tap Edit and play. However, there are some limitations to this.
First of all, any modified messages will come with a small label with the word "Modified" next to them, which is a reasonable precaution against those trying to mislead their contacts. Second, in its current implementation, editing messages is only an option within 15 minutes of being sent. This is a generous window, and frankly, if you don't catch a typo within 15 minutes of submitting it, chances are you never will. Finally, editing messages is currently only an option for text messages, with no support for image, video or document captions.
Like the upcoming ability to message yourself, this is an early stage feature for now, and WABetaInfo claims it will only be available for some beta users to begin with. But the fact that it's so far away suggests that it won't be long before you can allow yourself to be a little more careless with your WhatsApp messages.
